.NET Foundation Advisory Council Proposal

By Shaun Walker on 10/14/2014
After leaving DNN Corp this past summer, I took advantage of a unique opportunity to collaborate with Microsoft on a proposal to create an Advisory Council for the recently formed .NET Foundation.

Earlier this year at the BUILD conference, Microsoft had announced the formation of the .NET Foundation, an independent 501(C)(6) corporation that is chartered to foster open development and collaboration around the growing collection of open source technologies for .NET. It serves as a forum for commercial and community developers alike to strengthen the future of the .NET ecosystem by promoting openness, community participation and rapid innovation.

Working closely with Microsoft, I drafted a proposal which explains the rationale for why an Advisory Council is essential to the long term success of the .NET Foundation. The proposal contains a detailed charter which outlines the mission, composition, structure, and governance model for the Council and its Members. The proposal was recently approved by the .NET Foundation Board of Directors and was published today for public review and feedback.

Whether you are involved in open source or not, I encourage everyone to get involved in the review process to ensure that the .NET Foundation is well equipped to satisfy the needs of the .NET community long term.
